Overview
In astrology, there is more to learn than solely about the signs and planets. Another key component to an individual’s natal astrology chart is about the astrological houses. The houses reveal where we may have certain experiences or when we can expect something to take place. In this post, however, we’re going to dive specifically into the ninth house of philosophy and travel!
The Ninth House
Unlike signs and planets, houses regard events and circumstances in which we tend to have certain types of experiences. The types of experiences we may have depends on the house and its associations. Any astrological connections to the eighth house indicate things which are mainly surrounding excitement and adventure.
More Specifically, the ninth house generally involves higher education, including the wisdom that is gained through navigating new experiences in life. Oftentimes, this is obtained through travelling a great distance, including to foreign lands where different languages are spoken, and the religious practices are seemingly strange. This is the house that takes us out of our comfort zone in order for us to find deeper meanings to life and existence.
Sagittarius House
Sometimes, the ninth house is also referred to as the house of Sagittarius, as the fiery and outspoken sign naturally rules this house. Essentially, all this means is that the characteristics commonly associated to the zodiac sign, Sagittarius, can also be attributed to the house. However, this is through our experiences rather than within our personality.
Sagittarius is an incredibly honest sign, almost always daring to state or question what others usually won’t. Although they don’t always consider the consequences of their words before they speak them, they spend a great deal of time in reflection. Therefore, the ninth house is about being faced with truths that can shatter paradigms, leading us to change our personal values and beliefs.
9th House Location
In this image is the astrological wheel. Within it, you’ll find the twelve zodiac signs, the ten planets, the points, and the twelve houses. On the upper, right side of the wheel, above Sagittarius and the number 9 is where you’ll find the ninth house.
Naturally, Sagittarius rules the ninth house. However, for many of us, we have a different sign ruling our personal ninth house. We may also have or may not have planets in the house that influence this placement. Likewise, any aspects to the ninth house may impact it as well.
Everything, from the line separating Scorpio and Sagittarius to the opposite line that divides Sagittarius and Capricorn is within the ninth house. Therefore, the symbol for Jupiter, (♃), resides in this house for the current example. So, whenever you’re looking at your personal astrology chart, this is how you determine what’s in your ninth house.

Planets in the 9th House
It is common for people who have a planet or two in the 9th house to have parents from different backgrounds. Sometimes, these individuals are biracial, multiracial, or practice several religions and traditions. Regardless, it’s usually an indication that the two sides of their family are distinct from one another.
Having many planets in the 9th house may mean that one has traveled or moved to another country or overseas. On the other hand, they may meet their spouse while travelling abroad. If the spouse is met near their home, they may move with their partner overseas. Either way, there is a high liklihood that the person travels far and wide.
Having no planets in the 9th house doesn’t necessarily mean that these people will not travel or attain higher education. When there are no planets in a house, it is important to check the personal natal chart to see what sign rules their 9th house. Likewise, any aspects and transits can reveal more.
