In astrology, there is more to learn than solely about the signs and planets. Another key component to an individual’s natal astrology chart are the astrological houses. The houses reveal where we may have certain experiences or when we can expect something to take place. In this post, however, we’re going to dive specifically into the second house!
The Second House
In astrology, the second house is the house of money, possessions, and materials. It represents our relationship to our finances and goods. This is the house that reveals our sense of stability and security in the matters of wealth.
A person’s placement(s) in the second house may reveal how financially responsible we are or how we spend money and what we spend it on. It can also indicate how we earn and make a living in life. Overall, the second house allows us to see our level of abundance and our concrete, tangible manifestations.
Taurus House
The 2nd house is often known as the Taurus house because it corresponds with the sign of Taurus. Of all the signs in the zodiac, Taurus is generally the most attached to the physical world. While the signs tell us the characteristics a person may have in their personality, the houses tell us how those characteristics are expressed. This means that the understanding we have of the sign of Taurus can be applied to the second house, especially regarding comforts, attachments, and materials.

Naturally, Taurus rules the second house. However, for many of us, we have a different sign ruling our personal second house. Therefore, you have a sign ruling your second house while you also may or may not have planets in your second house that also influence this placement.
Everything, from the line that AC sits on to the next line below it, is in the first house. Therefore, the symbol for Venus, (♀), resides in this house for the current example. So, whenever you’re looking at your personal astrology chart, this is how you determine what’s in your second house.
Planets in the 2nd House
Whenever a person has many planets within a single house, they generally express themselves through the manner of the house. If there are many planets in the second house, it could either mean having lots of financial support and resources or a struggle to earn. The planets within this house tell us which of those categories we fall under.
Conversely, if the person has no planets in the 2nd house, the financial and material experience they will have will be dependent on how hard one works. On the other hand, an empty house indicates that we should refer to our house’s sign which rules it. Again, while the second house is naturally ruled by Taurus, our personal second house can be ruled by any of the signs.
Sun in the Second House
Those with the sun in the second house may enjoy showing off their money as their self-worth is closely related to their wealth. They feel validated as successful people whenever they can impress others with their possessions. Conversely, this leads them to sharing their resources and giving freely to others, as they’re driven by their values surrounding money and status.
Moon in the Second House
People with this placement often have an emotional relationship to money. Sometimes they may have a lot of money and other times they have nothing. Likewise, the way they spend money depends on how they feel and whether they’re emotionally stable at any given time. Unfortunately, they generally have a bad relationship to financial institutions and often accumulate a great amount of debt.
Mercury in the Second House
Having Mercury in the natal third house suggests being great at negotiating finances. The person could be a salesman, politician, or just great at budgeting. They are almost constantly thinking up new ways to earn more, and they move rapidly toward seeing gains.
Venus in the Second House
Whenever Venus is in the second house, the person may marry out of a desire for comfort and wealth rather than for love. This typically stems from a deep need for indulgence and the desire for possessions and luxurious living. On the other hand, they may spend more than they earn and see great value in name-brand materials.
Mars in the Second House
If a person has Mars in the natal second house, they might pursue wealth aggressively. However, they have a strong desire for financial independence, disliking times in their life where they feel they must rely on others to get by. Furthermore, they’re highly ambitious and will come up with many ideas to earn and succeed.
Jupiter in the Second House
Those that have Jupiter in the natal second house greatly expand financially throughout their lifetimes. The older they get, the more they accumulate. Much of this is due to having a positive attitude during their experiences, gaining financial wisdom, and oftentimes, it is simply sheer luck.
Saturn in the Second House
Having Saturn in the second house could indicate having a heavy amount of responsibilities and potential burdens, while feeling restricted from earning sincere stability consistently. However, this person may have a tight grip on their earnings and be a conservative spender. Generally, they become more financially resilient later in life.
Uranus in the Second House
Whenever Uranus is in the natal second house, the person may have a quirky or unconventional way of earning a living. Although they’re uneasily bothered by having less, they likely experience many sudden changes in the status of their wealth. This is often the type of person who could make a living from turning trash into impressive art and profiting.
Neptune in the Second House
When it comes to money, this person may have quite an impractical approach. Likewise, their relationship to money can be somewhat idealistic. They may either overestimate or underestimate their ability to earn. Oftentimes, this stems from a poor understanding of budgeting, interest rates, and hidden fees.
Pluto in the Second House
Whenever a person has Pluto in the second house, they may have an innate ability to go from having nothing to suddenly gaining wealth. Either they inherit wealth or they become powerful within their career. Either way, their relationship to finances is regularly influenced by types of transformative experiences within their lives.
